Meadowbank Stadium was built for the Commonwealth Games 1970 when Laughlan (Lachie) Stewart won gold for Scotland in the 10,000m and Ian Stewart won gold in the 5000m, a memory that still lives on.

The stadium although old has had a recent reprieve and the floodlighting system needed upgrading to meet the demands.  DC Lighting was employed by Edinburgh Leisure to repair the system.  The survey highlighted problems which meant that rewiring and replacement of the high level joint boxes.  The 50m towers created a logistical problem which was overcome utilising a pulley system allowing the materials to be raised and lowered to and from the head frame of the tower.  All of the floodlights were re-flexed and re-lamped with new polycarbonate joint boxes fitted and terminated at the head frame of each of the towers, the contactor control units were replaced along with new power factor correction capacitors at the base of each tower.
DC Lighting Services Ltd provided reduced levels of switching to allow training nights on the track and the football pitch in the centre.
Some of the views over Edinburgh from the top of the tower were breath taking!
